YouTube has become one of the most important social media outlets for companies today. Along with Facebook and Twitter, many people find YouTube to be a great source of information and entertainment. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your watching videos on YouTube.
Link Social Networks Together
Although it can be easy to get caught up in doing activities on each social network individually, it is much more efficient if you link them together. On YouTube, you can upload, favorite or like a video so that it will be immediately broadcast to your Twitter or Facebook account also. You can accomplish this easily by going to the upper right-hand corner of your YouTube account and clicking on “Settings” and then selecting the “Sharing” option. From there, you can add all of your social networking accounts.
Use Your Foreign Language Skills
Another great feature that YouTube offers is the ability to conduct searches in foreign languages. With their onscreen keyboard, it makes it possible to enter almost any language and conduct searches all on your own. Simply scroll down to the full bottom of the screen. There, click on the language menu and select your chosen language. A small keyboard icon will show up on your search bar. If you click on it, a keyboard will appear on your screen and you can use it as your guide for typing in your search keywords. This nifty feature makes it possible to search for foreign language content regardless of what type of keyboard you have attached to your keyboard.
Refine the Viewing Size and Resolution of Videos
Most regular YouTube users are familiar with the “full screen” option for watching videos. However, in some cases, you want the video to appear larger on your screen, but not fill the monitor screen entirely. In this case, choose the mid-size viewing option. It is located on the lower right region of the video window.
If you want to upgrade the resolution of a video, choose a higher resolution setting, which can be changed in by hitting the resolution count menu. It is also located in the lower bottom right of the viewing screen. You can also change your settings to automatically play HD if you switch to the full screen setting. Go to the settings menu and choose “playback setup.”
Save Videos for Later Viewing
It is not always possible to look at every great video you find on YouTube the minute you find it. If you want to save it to look at later, go to the main YouTube page and select “add to,” which is located right under the video window. If you want to save an embedded video, look for a plus sign at the bottom on the menu bar. This sign will appear after you have selected the “add to” feature on the main page. When you want to watch your saved videos, go to the video manager that appears if you click on your username.
Use Keyboard Shortcuts
Once you start using YouTube regularly, you may find that you want to speed through certain videos or activities. If you are watching a video, you can click on it and then use the space bar to start or pause the video. On your directional keys, use the left arrow key for rewind and right arrow key for fast forward. Up and down directional keys control the volume. Your home key will take you to the beginning of a video and the end key will take you to the end of the video.
